Tony Federico nasce a Milano a cavallo tra gli anni '60 del miracolo economico italiano e gli anni'70 della contestazione giovanile e della liberazione sessuale, alla quale spesso fa riferimento nella sua visione dell' universo femminile. All' età di quattro anni la famiglia di Tony si trasferisce in una delle periferie della grande metropoli, incontrando una realtà di confine che influenzerà poi sia il suo stile fotografico che il passaggio dall' adolescenza ad una vita adulta, che in un certo qual verso tuttora rifiuta. Le strade della periferia sono un ottima palestra di vita ma comunque risultano strette a Tony che, raggiunta la maggiore età, parte all'inseguimento di uno dei suoi grandi sogni: New York. La grande e vorace mela lo affascina in modo assoluto, specialmente dopo aver superato un periodo di assestamento, nel quale si mantiene con lavori saltuari; riesce a vincereuna borsa di studio per studenti stranieri al mitico Actor' Studio dove studia l'espressività corporea con un corpo docenti fantastico. New York sicuramente non gli sta stretta, ma gli risulta semplicemente fredda, nel senso letterale del termine, parte quindi alla volta di Miami dove si avvicina in modo quasi morboso alla fotografia. Fotografa tutto e tutti con la sua fedele compagna,una Mamya 6x7, passa ore nella camera oscura alla ricerca di immagini ad alto contrasto sia nella forma che nel contenuto. A questo punto accade l'impensabile, in un tempo brevissimo rientra in patria, , nuovi input lavorativi nell'ambito della moda milanese lo portano a contatto tra il 1991 ed il 1996con i più grandi nomi del fashion system mondiale, da Naomi Cambpell a Steven Meisel, da Karl Lagerfield a Nadia Auermann, passando da Armani a Versace (il compianto Gianni). Da qui la grande svolta che lo porta in auge: in un biennio sforna una quantità impressionante di lavori, che vengono utilizzati, in patria ed all’estero ,sia come editoriali che come advertising; le sue immagini suscitano forti emozioni e qualche polemica ma vengono più che mai apprezzate per il messaggio innovativo e talvolta rivoluzionario. Oggi Tony vive a Berlino e gli impegni lavorativi lo portano spesso dalla romantica Parigi alla fumosa e creativa Londra ,San Pietroburgo e Mosca,passando dalla città che considera come la sua casa, Miami.

New York is certainly not close to him, but it is simply cold, in the literal sense of the term, so he leaves for Miami where he approaches photography in an almost morbid way. He photographs everything and everyone with his faithful companion, a Mamya 6x7, he spends hours in the darkroom looking for high-contrast images both in form and content. At this point the unthinkable happens, in a very short time he returns to his homeland, new work inputs in the Milanese fashion field bring him into contact between 1991 and 1996 with the biggest names in the world fashion system, from Naomi Cambpell to Steven Meisel, from Karl Lagerfield to Nadia Auermann, passing from Armani to Versace (the late Gianni).
